Palfinger Strengthens Icelandic Footprint with PALDRIVE Crane Truck Deliveries
Austrian lifting specialist Palfinger has reinforced its commitment to rugged, real-world performance with the delivery of four fully integrated PALDRIVE crane truck solutions to Icelandic construction firms operating in some of Europe’s most unforgiving environments.
The delivery—completed in collaboration with Palfinger’s new local distributor, Kraftur hf—includes two PK 92002 SH and two PK 135.002 TEC 7 crane models. These top-tier truck-mounted cranes are now hard at work in the fleets of Landstólpi ehf, Borgarverk ehf, Fossvélar ehf, and Þjótandi ehf, offering high lifting capacities, long outreach and precise handling under harsh operating conditions.
For a nation defined by lava plains, wind-battered plateaus and unpredictable weather, having robust and responsive lifting equipment is non-negotiable. That’s where the PALDRIVE concept shines—delivering a complete, turnkey truck-and-crane package built for immediate use.
“PALDRIVE is about providing a ready-to-go solution from day one,” explains Gerhard Luger, Head of Sales & Outbound Product Management Installations at Palfinger. “It gives operators the confidence to take on complex lifting tasks without worrying about setup delays or system integration.”
Intelligent Features for Demanding Sites
Both crane models are packed with smart features to handle Iceland’s demanding terrain. Key among them is HPSC-Plus LOAD, Palfinger’s adaptive stability control system that factors in vehicle inclination and load condition to maximise safe outreach—even on uneven or shifting ground.
Adding to the ease of operation is P-FOLD, which allows fast, semi-automated folding and unfolding of the crane via a single lever movement. This system is integrated with RTC (Rope Tension Control), which maintains optimal rope tension without manual adjustment. The result? Significantly reduced setup times and smoother daily operation—even in extreme wind or icy conditions.
“Our Icelandic customers are already seeing the benefits of these intelligent technologies,” says Gerhard Hager, Senior Product Operator at Palfinger EMEA GmbH. “With Kraftur hf and local support from Bjarni Halldór Kristjánsson, we’ve built a foundation for long-term growth in this unique market.”
Built for Harsh Terrain, Backed by Local Support
This rollout in Iceland is more than just a sales milestone—it’s a strategic move by Palfinger to tailor solutions for smaller yet strategically important markets where environmental extremes test equipment limits daily. By coupling smart hydraulic engineering with hands-on local support, PALDRIVE is proving that even in isolated or tough environments, reliability and efficiency can still go hand in hand.
“These new vehicles demonstrate what’s possible when global engineering meets local expertise,” adds Luger. “We see huge potential for further expansion in Iceland and other Nordic regions with similar terrain and working conditions.”
