McHale Plant Sales Welcomes €30 Billion Infrastructure Investment as Ireland Eyes Transformational Growth

With plans to inject up to €30 billion into national infrastructure between 2026 and 2030, the Irish Government’s latest announcement has drawn praise from key industry stakeholders, chief among them, construction equipment distributor McHale Plant Sales.

Based in Birdhill, Co. Tipperary, McHale Plant Sales—distributors for Komatsu and Metso in Ireland, has called the move a “landmark moment” for the sector and a vital step toward future-proofing the nation’s transport, energy, and public infrastructure.

“with this new commitment and the plans that will accompany it, Ireland is investing in projects that have been long-overdue”.

Infrastructure as a growth engine

The additional €30 billion is set to sit alongside broader revisions to Ireland’s National Development Plan (NDP), which will now push the State’s total infrastructure investment close to €100 billion over the next five to six years.

McHale views this as more than just fiscal stimulus, it’s a catalyst for regional development, employment, and long-term resilience. As a company deeply embedded in the Irish construction supply chain, McHale understands how the right investment can ripple out across communities, businesses, and entire sectors.

The announcement is “one that will be universally welcomed given its capacity to create significant employment, generate extensive spin-off investment, enhance the national estate to an immeasurable degree, and create a greater sense of wellbeing amongst our community generally’. says O’Driscoll.

Local projects, real impact

Citing several shovel-ready projects, O’Driscoll highlighted the construction of a new bridge across the River Shannon between Ballina (Co. Tipperary) and Killaloe (Co. Clare) as a perfect example of infrastructure with far-reaching effects.

“Projects like the Ballina-Killaloe crossing bring direct returns in tourism, business efficiency, and regional access. They improve logistics for suppliers, enhance commuter flows, and attract visitors who might otherwise bypass smaller towns,” he explains.

Another key investment mentioned is the €450 million upgrade of the Ballaghaderreen to Scramogue section of the N5 in Co. Roscommon, where Wills Brothers of Foxford is leading delivery. It’s one of many critical road projects that McHale believes will drive economic gains while modernising Ireland’s ageing transport network.

Machines ready, operators needed

As Ireland’s infrastructure ambitions scale up, so too does demand for reliable machinery, skilled operators, and responsive aftersales support. Distributors like McHale, trusted partners of global brands such as Komatsu and Metso, are gearing up to support contractors through what is expected to be a sustained period of high activity across civil engineering, quarrying, and materials processing sectors.

Whether it’s deploying Komatsu’s intelligent excavators for bridge works, or supplying high-capacity Metso crushers for road and rail aggregate production, McHale is positioning itself as a critical enabler of Ireland’s infrastructure overhaul.
