Mighty JCB 370X Joins Safedem Fleet for Heavy-Duty Demolition Work
One of the UK’s most respected demolition and dismantling contractors has strengthened its fleet with the addition of a new JCB 370X tracked excavator.
Dundee-based Safedem, a global specialist in complex demolition and explosive engineering, has taken delivery of JCB’s most powerful excavator to date for deployment on demanding projects across the UK. Supplied by Scot JCB, the 370X has been specified with additional cab and body guarding to withstand the harsh realities of demolition environments.
Safedem is a fourth-generation, family-run business with more than a century of experience in demolition and dismantling. Internationally recognised for its technical precision and specialist explosives capability, the company continues to invest in equipment that delivers reliability, performance and operator confidence on some of the most challenging sites in the industry.
Managing Director William Sinclair said the decision to invest in the 370X was rooted in long-standing relationships and proven performance.
“This business is built on relationships and we’ve always had a strong one with JCB. My grandfather was in the RAF with Joseph Cyril Bamford and today we work closely with Scot JCB, which provides us with outstanding support. As a UK business working all over the world, it’s inspiring to see what JCB has achieved globally. Wherever we go, we find a JCB on site. That speaks volumes.”
Safedem’s fleet already includes multiple JCB demolition excavators, and the arrival of the 370X represents a step up in size and capability. According to Sinclair, the machine has already proved itself in early work.
“We’ve lost count of how many JCB machines we’ve bought over the years and they’ve never let us down. The new 370X is a good size machine for demolition and handles everything we throw at it. We were looking forward to its launch and it hasn’t disappointed. It’s the biggest machine JCB makes, powerful, robust and already proving to be stable, fuel-efficient and comfortable for our operators.”
Designed for heavy-duty applications, the JCB 370X combines increased power and strength with improved efficiency. The machine is powered by a 240 kW Stage V engine, delivering a 14% increase in power over its predecessor. Updated hydraulics improve controllability and productivity, while extended service intervals help reduce downtime and total cost of ownership, key considerations for contractors operating high-intensity demolition programmes.
Operator comfort has also been a focus, with a spacious cab, improved visibility and reduced noise and vibration levels helping operators stay productive during long shifts. For demolition work, where precision and awareness are critical, these factors play a significant role in overall site safety and performance.
Founded in 1974 and employing around 40 people, Safedem has built a reputation for delivering some of the most technically demanding demolition projects in the world. The company holds the Guinness World Record for the tallest building demolished using controlled explosives and continues to provide specialist services, including explosive demolition and façade retention, on projects worldwide.
With its compact but highly specialised fleet, Safedem relies on equipment that can be trusted in extreme conditions. The addition of the JCB 370X reinforces that approach, giving the contractor a powerful new tool for future high-impact demolition work across the UK and beyond.
