Steelwrist expands XTR tiltrotator line-up with new models and SuperProp hydraulics

Steelwrist has used Svenska Maskinmässan 2026 to push its third-generation tiltrotator platform forward, revealing two more XTR models and introducing a new patented hydraulic technology designed to improve precision, energy efficiency and control.

The Swedish manufacturer is presenting the new XTR7 and XTR13 tiltrotators at Solvalla in Stockholm, alongside the official debut of SuperProp, Steelwrist’s fully pressure-compensated proportional hydraulic system for the XTR range.

The launch forms part of Steelwrist’s largest ever exhibition presence in its home market, with all seven XTR tiltrotator models on display, live excavator demonstrations, quick couplers, work tools and a 1,000 sq m stand at Sweden’s biggest construction equipment show.

For contractors, owner-operators, plant hire businesses and fleet operators, the developments mark another step in the growing role of tiltrotators and automatic quick couplers in modern excavator productivity.

Seven XTR tiltrotators now in the range

Steelwrist first introduced its third-generation XTR platform with the XTR20 at a launch event in Hamburg in 2024. Since then, the range has grown quickly, with seven models now covering a wider spread of compact, mid-size and larger excavators.

At Svenska Maskinmässan, Steelwrist is showing the XTR7 and XTR13 for the first time. The XTR7 has been developed for excavators in the 4–7 tonne class and is available with an S40 size interface. At the show, it is being displayed with Steelwrist’s SQ40 fully automatic coupler system, allowing operators to change hydraulic powered attachments from inside the cab.

The XTR10 and XTR13 extend the line-up for larger compact and mid-size machines. Both models are available with S45 and S50 interfaces and are being shown in Stockholm with the fully automatic SQ45 solution. The XTR10 was first presented at CONEXPO-CON/AGG in Las Vegas in March, while the XTR13 makes its first public appearance at Svenska Maskinmässan.

Deliveries of the XTR7, XTR10 and XTR13 are expected to begin later in 2026. They join the XTR2, XTR15, XTR20 and XTR23 models, which have already been launched and are currently being delivered.

Steelwrist says the XTR range has been developed to increase excavator efficiency, improve safety and give operators greater precision and control. The tiltrotators offer 360-degree rotation and 45-degree tilt in both directions, allowing operators to work more accurately and reduce machine repositioning on site.

Key features across the platform include a compact design, steel cast components, refined tilt geometry, upgraded hydraulics, onboard lubrication technology and Steelwrist’s QuantumConnect control system platform. OptiLube onboard lubrication, high-resolution tilt and rotation sensors, and Steelwrist work tool locking solutions also form part of the package.

LockSense is available on XTR tiltrotators with S45/SQ45 coupler interfaces and above, while XTR models with S30 and S40/SQ40 interfaces use the company’s Front Pin Hook safety solution.

SuperProp targets precision, flow and hydraulic efficiency

One of the main technical talking points at the show is SuperProp, Steelwrist’s new patented hydraulic technology for the XTR series.

The system has been developed to give operators smoother and more predictable control when using several tiltrotator and excavator functions at the same time. In real working conditions, operators often combine tilt, rotation, gripper and auxiliary circuits while also using the boom and arm. In conventional hydraulic systems, pressure variations can affect flow through proportional valves, making combined movements harder to control smoothly.

SuperProp is designed to reduce that issue by maintaining independent control of the tiltrotator functions, even as hydraulic pressure changes. Steelwrist says the fully pressure-compensated proportional control system improves precision, function independence and response.

The technology is also designed to support energy efficiency. By matching pressure to the actual load and using only the energy required for the task, SuperProp can help reduce losses in the hydraulic system. That may contribute to lower fuel consumption, reduced heat generation and improved operating efficiency, which are becoming increasingly important factors in total cost of ownership for both diesel and electric excavators.

In the XTR tiltrotators, SuperProp is fully integrated into the machine design. Steelwrist has also redesigned the swivel to maintain full flow capacity below the tiltrotator. Combined with larger port dimensions, the system supports full 350 bar machine pressure and up to 200 l/min hydraulic flow for demanding powered attachments.

The system allows tilt, rotation, gripper and auxiliary functions to work independently of each other, while also supporting high auxiliary circuit capacity. This is aimed at applications where operators need both strong attachment performance and precise tiltrotator control.

SuperProp will be available during the third quarter of 2026 on XTR10 to XTR23 models.

QuantumConnect supports installation, operation and service

The XTR range is supplied with QuantumConnect, Steelwrist’s latest control system platform for tiltrotators.

The system brings together new hardware, apps and connected functionality to support installers, service partners and operators. Its main components include A9 joysticks, a QIO module, Connectivity Gateway and touch display, delivered with a machine-specific cable harness to make installation more straightforward.

For technicians, the InstallMate app provides predefined, machine-specific and multilingual installation guides, with step-by-step support and remote installation assistance.

For operators, QuantumConnect is built around proportional control through rollers on the A9 joysticks. Hydraulic valve auto-calibration is designed to improve the driving experience, while the QuantumConnect app allows operators to adjust settings, access support and keep the system updated.

The platform also works with other Steelwrist technologies, including LockSense for work tool locking indication, ToolRec for wireless tool detection and automatic setting adjustment, and optional machine control integration for bucket position feedback.

Together, XTR, SuperProp and QuantumConnect form the hardware, hydraulic and digital foundation of Steelwrist’s latest tiltrotator ecosystem.

Steelwrist goes big at Svenska Maskinmässan

Steelwrist’s stand at Svenska Maskinmässan covers 1,000 sq m and features the company’s XTR tiltrotators, X-series tiltrotators, quick couplers and work tools.

Five excavators are on the stand, with two machines being used for live demonstrations by Swedish Steelwrist ambassadors Anton Persson and Linus Josefsson. Three further machines are displayed statically.

The demonstrations are designed to show how tiltrotators, automatic quick couplers and work tools can improve productivity, flexibility and safety across excavation, landscaping, utilities, groundwork, roadbuilding and general construction applications.

Open-S remains central to Steelwrist’s message

Steelwrist is also using Svenska Maskinmässan to continue its focus on Open-S, the open industry standard for automatic excavator couplers. The standard is owned and managed by the independent Open-S Alliance, with Steelwrist one of its founding members.

Open-S is intended to give machine owners, contractors and operators the freedom to combine quick couplers, tiltrotators and work tools from different manufacturers, provided the products meet the same standard. The aim is to support customer choice, compatibility and safety without locking users into one manufacturer’s system.

The Open-S Alliance now has 29 members globally, following the recent addition of four new members from Japan and the Netherlands.
