JCB’s “Backhoe in a Box” full-size for 80th anniversary celebration

Visitors to JCB’s World Headquarters in Rocester, Staffordshire can see a full-sized JCB 3CX Sitemaster backhoe loader displayed as if it were a toy in its original packaging. The eight-tonne machine, standing nearly 15 feet tall and 25 feet wide, forms the centrepiece of the company’s 80th anniversary celebrations, and has already become a magnet for both industry insiders and families visiting the site.The display, dubbed the “Backhoe in a Box”, reimagines one of JCB’s most iconic machines as a giant 1:1-scale model packaged in the distinctive yellow-and-black Britains-style box familiar to generations of collectors.

Lit up each evening by the lakeside at JCB’s headquarters, the exhibit will remain on show until January, a glowing tribute to the brand’s legacy in British manufacturing and global construction.A tribute to a global icon.

The “Backhoe in a Box” celebrates two remarkable milestones for JCB: not only the company’s 80th anniversary but also the production of over one million replica models made under TOMY’s Britains brand,  a partnership that has lasted nearly 60 years. This follows JCB’s earlier milestone this year: the one millionth full-sized backhoe loader to roll off the production line.George Bamford, JCB Deputy Chairman, reflected on the significance of the display:
